If you organize survival gear properly it will save you time and money ensuring that you know what you have available for different survival scenarios and how to access it quickly. Below you will find some basic tips to help you organize survival gear and supplies.

Make An Emergency Plan

The first step to being prepared for an emergency survival situation is to make an emergency preparedness plan. This will help you focus on the specific emergency scenarios you are prepping for. Personally, I would recommend physically writing your ideas and plans the old-fashioned way with good old pen and paper.

Not only will this help you think it through, but it will also help you see the wood for the trees as you brainstorm your ideas and concerns on to the page.

Make a plan for every situation you can think of for example:

  • Floods
  • Fire
  • Power Outages
  • Terrorist Attacks
  • Nuclear Fall Out
  • Severe Weather Conditions

These are just a few examples you may be considering, what you are preparing for will depend on your personal concerns and geographical location.

Making an emergency preparedness plan is often one of the more difficult tasks. We don’t have a crystal ball, to tell us what the future might bring and there are so many disaster scenarios and variations. Focus on what concerns you most and take your time. You may even find yourself rewriting it over and over as you tweak your ideas.

Put Your Plan Into Action

Once you have made your plan it gets easier because you now have a roadmap showing you where you are now and where you want to be in order to be ready to prepare and ready to survive.

You can now set your plan into action implementing your specific plan by making the needed preparations and sourcing the gear and supplies you have noted down. Follow the suggestions made below which will help you to organize survival gear, supplies, and equipment and get it prepared and ready for use should you need it.

Make Use Of Lists

It is vital to make lists of the survival gear and supplies you have and still need to source. Making your own List will help you to keep track of what you have done, what needs to be done, and what or where everything is.

Keep a running inventory list for your emergency food and water rations, first aid kit, and other supplies. Include expiration dates and make changes to the list as items are used, removed, or replaced. Make a list of any medical information, medications, emergency contacts, and any other useful information.

You can create your own lists from scratch or use one of the many lists available for free from prepping and survivalist websites who have resources sections.

Allocate Designated Places For Your Emergency Supplies

Whether at home, in your office or car and wherever else you think you are likely to be if disaster strikes it’s a good idea to designate set places to store your vital supplies so you can grab them at a moments notice. You could have a bugout bag permanently stored in your car and at work.

You should also choose a permanent place at home to store your emergency water, food and survival kit. This could be in a cellar or pantry/cupboard.

Store Your Emergency Kit and Supplies Carefully

When storing food, make sure that all items are safely contained in hygienic airtight bags or containers. Have extra containers on standby for any cans, boxes, or bags that are opened for use. Keep everything as neatly contained as possible so you can keep track of and locate items you need.

Label Everything

Be sure to label all of your supplies clearly. If an emergency occurs, you won’t have time to sift through an unorganized pile of supplies to locate specific items.

When preparing your food and water supplies or anything that has an expiry date like first aid items or medication make sure you mark the labels with the expiration dates and “date opened” so that you can avoid waste and keep your supplies fresh.

Update and Maintain Your Survival Supplies

You have already done the hard work by making and maintaining an emergency preparedness plan and supplies list.

In order to save both time and money regularly check your kit and supplies. keep everything clean and in good working order ensuring you rotate any perishable supplies with expiration dates. This will save you both time and money.
